Austin Books & Comics Haul July 2018

I'm so behind the game, but I finally bought my issues of Batman #50! I dropped by Austin Books & Comics yesterday to get caught up. I grabbed Batman #50 and also managed to snag Jim Lee's variant cover. It was cute to see that ABC still had the display table out from their Tuesday night release party complete with the cake and guest book.

I haven't been keeping up with Tom King's run on Batman, but this just seemed like an important issue to purchase if for nothing other than the art! I love seeing everyone's take on Batman and Catwoman. I know there's a lot of disappointment from fans in the direction King took the story, but I'm not personally invested in any major decisions made in Batman's history until it's been around for a while (e.g. Damian Wayne). I'm not shocked one way or the other. Batman and Catwoman are still my one true pairing no matter what happens. Let me know what you thought!

While at ABC, I also grabbed Dustin Nguyen's last Super Sons variant cover, #16. I love it and glad I was able to find it! I'm bummed that I didn't start collecting variants until more than midway through Super Sons. We also found an issue of Descender #27 with a Dustin Nguyen cover that we didn't own yet! Got to support our favorite artists so we snagged that even though we already have another copy.

Overall, not a bad haul! I'm very happy with what we bought.

Hops & Heroes ATX and Hot Topic Haul July 2018

I told myself I wouldn't lag on haul posts and, what do you know, I've already bought more stuff!

On my last Inspiration Day from work, I dropped by Hops & Heroes, a non-profit comic book store that helps provide education for students who might otherwise not be able to afford it. I mentioned it on my Facebook before if you're following me there! While there, I caught up on my Descender purchases with both covers of Descender #30. They had to order them and in the process of waiting for both covers to come in, I just ended up requesting both covers of Descender #31, too. Hops & Heroes is awesome. They just delivered everything to me while I was at work and they have Square so they're able to accept payments upon delivery as well. I would recommend them due to the convenience AND the good cause.

Also, just a reminder that if you're into sci-fi adventures, I highly recommend you check out Descender! They're making it into a movie so read it now so you can call yourself a Descender hipster.

The rest of my haul for this post is from Hot Topic! I was "tricked" into this purchase. By tricked, I mean I really wanted the Hot Topic Exclusive Diamond Batgirl Funko Pop (I mentioned it in my last post if you remember) and I had a coupon for $15 off $50 so I ended up buying more stuff to hit the $50 minimum even though I didn't need/want anything else. Hah. I'm a sucker. The worst part is that I got a coupon for free shipping after I made my purchase. DARN THAT MARKETING TEAM! I also received "Hot Cash" which gives me $15 off $30 for a FUTURE purchase. They always know how to get me back. Anyway, here's the little one that caused all that trouble. At least she's super adorable.

I'm pretty happy with my other products though. I surprisingly couldn't find any other Batman products I wanted so I purchased the following items. Despite poor reviews, I purchased a Wonder Woman sports bra because I can always use new ones for working out. When I received it, I thought the quality looked pretty on par with the price you pay. It looks like just what I expected and should do the job I need it to, but we'll see how it holds up after a workout and a wash cycle! I might actually use it for this upcoming July 4th since I don't have any red/white/blue bathing suits. Multi-use purchase!

I also purchased a dragon ring and Mulan Mushu cuff bracelet for fun since I'm born in the year of the dragon. They'll probably turn my skin green because of the fake materials, but at least they'll look cute for a bit! The ring is pretty huge, but it's of course one-size-fits-all costume jewelry so what do you expect? I just have to make sure not to flail my hand around too much if I end up wearing it. Heh.

I definitely didn't need another gold bracelet, but I think the Mushu cuff bracelet looks pretty cool. It fits a lot better than the ring despite my small wrists.

Things I ALMOST bought that I responsibly did not include a couple of Mulan tank tops. One of them had an image of Mushu with the quote "Dishonor on your family and your cow." That quote cracks me up EVERY time. I had to think about that one for a while before I took it out of my cart. I decided I've got plenty of dark tank tops already. I also almost bought this We Bare Bears California tank top to honor my home state, but realize every time I buy a "cute" shirt, I rarely ever wear them (e.g. my Tee Turtle shirts, so cute and so neglected).  If you're not familiar with We Bare Bears, it's a pretty adorable Cartoon Network show about the shenanigans of Grizzly (a grizzly bear), Panda (a panda bear), and Ice Bear (a polar bear) in a human world. They also sometimes travel by stacking on top of each other thus the tank top design. Tell me that's not adorable.

Let me know what you think of my purchases. Do you think I should have bought some of the stuff that I didn't? Do you think I should have just bought Batgirl and none of the other stuff I got suckered into buying? Hah. Be brutally honest.

I'll hopefully be back again soon. I have a few posts in mind including one about San Diego Comic-Con which is just a couple weeks away, but it's going to be a very busy late July/early August so I'll share SDCC happenings here as soon as I can. In the mean time, follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to see what I'm up to in between blog posts and WHILE I'm at SDCC. I'll be sure to share things on my IG story. Have a happy and safe 4th of July! Until next time!
