San Diego Comic-Con 2016 Haul

HELLOOO! I'm finally back after a month. I make no false promises this time. It will probably be another month before you see me again after this post, but let's not worry about that now.

It's been 3 weeks? 4 weeks? since SDCC2016 and I'm finally getting around to posting my haul. It was a great year. Great friends, great food, great times and on top of that it was raining Pokemon! ðŸ˜„ Team Instinct, y'all.

To get them out of the way first, the most common questions I get when I tell people I went to SDCC are...
  1. "Did you dress up?"
Yes, I did. I dressed up as Linda Belcher with my friends who were dressed up as Louise and Tina Belcher from Bob's Burgers. I was also going to dress up as Bulma from Dragonball Z on Saturday, but I got lazy and it was hot so went out in my civilian clothing. Really, though, it was RIDICULOUSLY hot in San Diego. I did not expect that. I digress.
  2. "What was your favorite part?"
Other than the people and just being in that type of amazing, fun, nerdy environment, I'd say my favorite part was meeting Will Friedle, voice of Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond and also Eric Matthews from Boy Meets World. My other favorite part was acquiring an original, super awesome, super adorable painting from Dustin Nguyen. Here are the pictures again if you aren't following me on Instagram and, if you aren't following me on Instagram, why would you hurt me like that? Follow me here.

Now that I've answered ALL of your burning questions about my exciting SDCC trip (hah), let's get right into what we came home with. Whoo!

First, check out some free goodies. Don't you love that free swag? This pile of stuff includes a Batman v Superman frisbee, plastic Wonder Woman toy headband (so cool), XBox sunglasses, Chococat patch, ring phone sticker (which Mickey super loves for his phone), DC temporary tattoos, Spock and Batman buttons, circular Batman sticker which we believe is meant for the iPhone button (but I'll find a way to use it on my Galaxy), Batman Jelly Belly jelly beans, and these kitty ears which were handed specifically to me, the 1 girl walking with my 2 guy friends. Hah.

Every year, they give each attendee a free giant bag as well and I always go hunting for the Batman-themed one via a trade. I didn't have to work very hard this year because Micks came back to the hotel room with it one day. So thoughtful. The SDCC bag I got was promoting Justice League Action. Over the years, the bags have transformed from basic bags with a shoulder strap to backpacks and now to backpacks with a giant flap. The bags are so huge that flipping the flap is awkward. I'm not a fan of them, but I'm assuming it was for more advertising space.

On to the rest of the stuff! Micks bought me this squishy batarang that actually makes noise when you press the middle. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to throw it while pressing the button... for effect. He and our friend Paulo thought it was a metal batarang when they saw it in the picture, but it turned out to be a plushy. LOL! Super sweet of Micks to buy it for me regardless. ðŸ˜Š

In a previous post, I mentioned that we went to see Conan O'Brien live on preview night (Wednesday) of SDCC. At the show, they gave away VR cardboard headsets.

But more importantly, they gave away Conan Funko Pops! We all actually received Superman Conan Funko Pops, but I went back on Saturday when they were giving out the Joker Conan Funko Pops and traded mine with the attendees coming out of the Saturday Conan show. I learned that pro tip from a friend. The Joker Conan actually looks kind of creepy, but super glad we got him!

While we're on the Funko Pop path, here are some other Pops we purchased at SDCC2016.

Mickey bought Mag the Mighty from Game of Thrones, Bruce Lee, Pharah from Overwatch, and Dan, Hot Ryu, and Cammy from Street Fighter Funko Pops. He said he was going to give Dan to his brother because that's his favorite character. So cute.

Micks also bought me the Robin dressed as Batman Funko Pop! It's supposed to be a Toys 'R' Us exclusive. Super cute.

Separately, I purchased the Batman v Superman Underwater Batman Funko Pop from the Funko booth at SDCC. I politely asked some one in line if they would buy it for me if they weren't already purchasing it for themselves (since each person who was lucky enough to get in line is limited to 1 of each Pop). The person I asked was very nice about it. The Funko line process has become so overwhelming and near impossible to get into that there's no other way for me to get what I'd like. Luckily, the Underwater Batman didn't sell out super quickly because it's technically a summer convention exclusive and was available outside of SDCC. I can't say the same about the Dug (Up!) in a cone Funko Pop, which I tried to get for my brother. That sold out so quickly every single day.

The next Funko Pop wasn't technically purchased at SDCC, but my friend Paulo gave it to me at SDCC since he found and bought it at Target for me. My friends are the best! I've been looking for this Target exclusive Suicide Squad Joker Funko Pop for a while. It's nice to have friends in the right places.

In the OTHER figurines department, Mickey purchased this Cute but Deadly Diablo SDCC exclusive from the Blizzard booth. I don't play the game, but this thing is pretty adorbs.

Micks also got a hold of some great SDCC exclusive Star Wars Black Series 6" figures from the Hasbro booth for his friend who didn't attend SDCC (such a good friend). He got a hold of the Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jyn Erso, and Kylo Ren figures below. They look pretty good.

What else did we get...? Micks also bought this stein from the Blizzard booth. His question was, "How much alcohol does this carry?" The answer was enough for him to buy it... apparently. Well, you know what they say, "when at SDCC, buy stuff."*

*Not really, but they should make that a saying

Another friend Leslie who was attending SDCC with us purchased this super cute button-bottle opener-keychain for me. Nerd friends are the best. I haven't used this one yet, but I'll probably start carrying it on my keychain all the time. Useful Batman things are my favorite Batman things.

Oh man, there's more. What else did we get from SDCC?

We came out with a bunch of great posters like these free Game of Thrones, Archer, Bob's Burgers and Suicide Squad posters. I have no more room for anymore posters, but might be some nice additions to the desk at work.

These Batman: The Animated Series cards are not technically a poster, but they were also free and you know how I love all things Batman: The Animated Series.

What did I actually pay for? Good question.

I DID pay actual money for these posters from Dustin Nguyen's artist alley booth. I love them. I think the black/silhouette poster is my new all-time favorite Dustin Nguyen print. Click on the photos for a better look.

The latter 2 posters were actually signed by Will Friedle when I went to his signing (pictured earlier in this post). Check out his autographs below. He also signed something for my friend Amy who's a huge fan of his from his Boy Meets World days so he signed her stuff "Fe-he-he-he-nay!" That was pretty amazing and quite a pleasant throwback. If you guys were a fan of Boy Meets World, you would have loved it!

Other than the painting (pictured earlier in this post) and the posters, we also bought Dustin Nguyen's 2016 sketchbook and  What Is It? which is a children's book that he and his wife published together. She wrote it when she was a child, he found it and illustrated it to provide as party favors at their wedding, and he re-illustrated it for the published version you see below. Tell me that isn't the cutest story behind a children's book ever.

AND FINALLY BONUS DUSTIN NGUYEN ITEM! Comixology produced comic book artist trading cards and he signed a couple for Micks and me... just because we asked nicely and we found them so entertaining. I totally cracked up when I saw these. They're kind of cool, but also kind of hilarious.

I think that's pretty much all we brought home from SDCC... other than the beautiful memories. ðŸ˜‚ Cheesy.

Let me know if there was anything in particular at SDCC that you wanted, but couldn't get whether you were there or not. If you did attend and came home with some awesome stuff, let me know what your favorite SDCC purchase/swag was!

NYCC is coming up in a couple of months and it'll be our first time going so you'll likely see another post like this from me soon-ish. Before then, though, I have a couple other posts planned so come back soon!
